Mountain and River
What does a mountain do? Stays still. What does a river do? Flows. Would it be possible to confuse a mountain with a river? Would it make any sense to treat a river as a mountain? How much of an effort would it be to ask a mountain to flow like a river? How much of an effort would it be to ask a river to stay still like a mountain?
What are the things in our lives that are supposed to be staying still like mountains, but we force them to flow like rivers? Any other thing we want it to happen, but it does not happen. Any other thing we do not want to do, but we believe that we should.
What about other things in our lives that are supposed to flow like rivers, but we force them to stay still like mountains? Any other thing we do not want it to happen, but it does happen. Any other thing we want to do, but we believe that we should not.
When are the times we are supposed to stay still like a mountain, but we find ourselves to flow like a river? All those times we wish we could be not movable and touchable by anything, as strong as a mountain but drowning in our tears.
When are the times we are supposed to flow like a river, but we find ourselves staying still like a mountain? All those times we wish we could be not stopped by anything, as persistent as a river but paralysed by our weight.
How about the possibility of an error in our judgement when it comes to decide if that thing is a mountain or a river, or when to be like a mountain or like a river?
Will we ever learn what is a mountain and what is a river? Will we ever learn when to be like a mountain and when to be like a river? Knowledge will help us to recognize mountains and rivers in nature, wisdom will help us to recognize them in our lives.
Imagine how great it would be to simply enjoy when we let a mountain be a mountain, and a river be a river. How great it would be to simply enjoy when we are being a mountain, and when we are being a river. That it all happens without any force or fear or control of being anything else or doing anything else.
Just let it be what it is.
