The first round of made-up users found small things. Selim’s rule for the round was small too: “decide if the change is small, you can decide if that can go to production already.”

held still

Testers kept missing taps because something moved under their finger. In Anlat a tapped offer now keeps its place and only changes its look; the microphone moved to a row of its own so spoken words never run under it; and a line about everyday flatness was added next to the strong feelings, because there was nothing for an ordinary low day. Cube design’s rule that a chosen tile stays under the finger now covers an offer that becomes a value.

doors that lead nowhere

The guests read tiles that led nowhere as broken. A guest’s Mosaic now shows only doors that open for them. And all three people who met “added by selim” on their own cubes concluded they were inside someone else’s account and held back what they would have put in. So what someone adds to Cubes now carries their own name, in the backend and in the app.

Who added a thing is part of whose it is.

from the answers’ side

The people tried to sort pieces from the answers’ side and could not: “let me sort the planets right on the answers page: tap two, pick Mars, not three screens down per planet.” Cube design had said a journey from afar only shows. The people said it should also let you give the answer. From a face of a cube, a colour now opens every piece, with one tap per piece. The principle is left as it is, and the question is written down for Selim.

the website that says no

The website of cube design was held to its own rules by its first readers. A swipe on the cube on top now says this site does not turn, instead of doing nothing. Colour chips no longer pretend to be links. A picture opens full size on a tap. Where the site was silent, the testers were lost.

one pinch, one level

A different kind of bug: on a Mac, pinching out of a level in Mosaic went two levels up. A trackpad pinch is a stream of events, and the second half of the same pinch was read as a second zoom by the new screen. A stream is now one gesture until it goes quiet. Selim: “it should just go one layer up.” Moving through the cube is a change of distance, and a gesture that overshoots breaks the feeling that you know where you are.
